Hybrid wire input and output expander

SAFE IO Expander Board

By purchasing SAFE, you have gained access to a modern alarm system offering a wide range of smart functions, based on wireless technology. Nevertheless, during some installations you may encounter a situation where wired elements need to be integrated – whether SAFE-branded or from third-party manufacturers. Whether you plan to add magnetic contacts, powerful sirens, sensors, or to create advanced automation, the solution is the Expander Board. This expander turns your purely wireless control panel, such as the Hub 2 Plus LTE, into a hybrid one. With it, you can easily expand the system with additional wired inputs and outputs, which gives you maximum freedom when installing security without technical compromises and limitations.
Description of the Device
Fully utilizing the potential of the SAFE system
The SAFE IO Expander Board is a hybrid expansion module communicating with the central unit via an RS-485 port. Its primary function is to scale the system by an additional 8 alarm inputs and 2 control outputs. If the capacity needs to be increased, further IO Expander Boards can be interconnected or combined with IO Relay Boards (max. 16 modules). This makes it possible to expand the SAFE system with additional wired peripherals while fully utilising the potential of the SAFE central unit. The alarm system thus gains much broader modularity, thanks to which the premises can be protected far more comprehensively and effectively.

Alarm Inputs
The module's 8 alarm inputs provide eight fully programmable wired inputs, which allows easy integration of any wired security or automation devices — from PIR motion sensors, magnetic contacts, detectors or sensors to thermostats and other specific peripherals. Each connected device can be configured and addressed in the system.
Alarm outputs
In addition to inputs, the IO Expander Board offers two programmable relay outputs (NO/NC) that can be used for a variety of purposes, from activating sirens and strobe lights to shutting off water or gas supplies, all the way to controlling smart automation components. This makes it easy to turn on outdoor lighting in the event of an alarm or to integrate electronic door lock systems.
Modernization of existing systems
The IO Expander Board makes it possible to modernise existing installations of third-party intruder alarm systems without having to replace functioning equipment. Connect the existing security peripherals to the SAFE platform, thereby integrating the devices into a modern platform that gives you management via the free ProSAFE app, automation scenarios and detailed notifications directly on your smartphone – all without complications and complex programming.
Real-time notifications
Third-party devices connected via the IO Expander Board provide both users and central monitoring station operators with the same functions as native SAFE products. From several types of available alarm events — for example: intrusion, panic alarm/SOS, fire, medical alarm, gas leak, water leak — you can preset the one that fully matches your needs, and the notifications will precisely describe both the location and the type of incident.
Compatibility with Third-Party Peripherals
The module supports all common connection types: NC, NO, 1EOL, 2EOL and 3EOL with resistances of 2.7 kΩ, 4.7 kΩ and 6.8 kΩ. Both pulse and bistable devices can be connected. Automatic EOL resistance measurement during installation saves time and increases configuration accuracy. Connected third-party devices are fully addressable. The event type, device name and assigned area are transmitted to the monitoring station — the operator always knows exactly what happened and where.
Automation Scenarios During an Alarm
Alarm messages and events received from integrated devices can trigger automation scenarios (locking doors, switching on lights, disconnecting potential ignition sources …), which enable security elements to be linked with smart devices (e.g. Power Relay, Dry Relay, Socket, etc.) to automate the given premises. Based on defined conditions, the system independently performs preconfigured actions, thereby increasing safety and comfort.
